History of the Palm Springs Branch

The Palm Springs Branch of NLAPW was founded on February 23, 1958 when Mrs. Marjory Adams Darling, an artist and Pen Woman in the Laguna Branch, was requested by the California state president to form a branch in Palm Springs.  Other founding members include Clara Spannagel, Amelia Gardner, Elizabeth Elliot, Madrid Anderson and Grace Harmon.  Then, as now, the objective of the branch is to conduct, promote and encourage creative and educational activities in Art, Letters and Music.  This goal is fulfilled by providing stimulating and educational programs at monthly meetings and in awarding annual scholarships in the field of Art, Letters and Music to worthy students chosen from Coachella Valley Schools.
